Facts below come from those sites, not from reviews or rankings elsewhere.

How this list was chosen

A company had to advertise limewash or lime wash on its own website, have a working phone number and a location we could confirm, and serve Aurora or the towns around it. Order runs roughly by how long each says it has been working in the area, then by how much limewash it shows. There are no paid placements on this page, and no company asked to be included.

We left out prices. Every company prices from a site visit, and quoting a competitor's numbers would only go stale. For typical ranges, see the cost guide.

1. Limewash Chicago (Z&Z Painting & Restoration)

A limewash-only website run by Z&Z Painting & Restoration Inc., with its listed base in Clarendon Hills. It describes itself as a Romabio Preferred PRO applicator and says it has 20+ years in Chicagoland. Its service area names Hinsdale, Winnetka, Lake Forest, Naperville, Barrington and Highland Park, so it reaches Aurora's eastern neighbours rather than Aurora itself. Phone (630) 802-4302.

6. Aurora Limewash

This website. Aurora Limewash is a referral service rather than a contractor: callers are connected with independent local painting and masonry contractors, who quote and do the work. It is included here for transparency, since this article is published on this company's own website. What it offers is published typical prices, local rules on historic districts, and a phone call to start. The service area page lists the towns it covers.

How to choose a limewash company

Whichever company you call, the same questions separate a careful job from a quick one. The answers matter more than the name on the truck.

  • Which product, and how many coats? A named mineral limewash, applied in two coats, is the usual standard.
  • Will you do a test patch? Limewash dries far lighter than it goes on. A patch, dried in daylight, settles the colour.
  • How do you check the brick? A splash test for sealers and a look at the mortar should come before any price.
  • What happens to painted or sealed areas? They have to be stripped, or the plan changes to a mineral paint.
  • Who handles approvals? In historic districts in Aurora, Batavia, St. Charles and Geneva, the certificate comes first.
  • Can I see proof of insurance? Every contractor should provide it before starting.

When a smaller job does not need a big company

A single fireplace or an accent wall is a small job of skilled brushwork, and an independent painter with a limewash portfolio can be the better fit than a firm built for whole exteriors. For whole houses, especially two-storey ones in Naperville or Wheaton, ask about ladders, scaffold and how they keep a large wall damp in summer, because that is where limewash jobs go wrong. The exterior limewash page explains why.

Reading a limewash portfolio

Photographs of finished limewash are easy to make look good, so look at them with a few questions in mind. Is it the same kind of brick as yours, old and soft or new and dense? Is it a full exterior, or a fireplace? Are there pictures from a year or two later, after weather? A company that shows its work honestly will usually show the wash on a grey day as well as a sunny one, and will tell you which product and how many coats went on.

Painting company or masonry company

Limewash sits between two trades. Painting companies bring brushwork, colour and protection of the surroundings; masonry companies bring mortar repair, cleaning and an understanding of how old brick behaves. A job on sound brick is a painting job. A job where half the joints need repointing first is a masonry job with a finish at the end. Ask who will do each part, and whether the company that repoints also does the wash or brings someone in.

Questions people ask

Who limewashes brick houses near Aurora, IL?

Companies advertising limewash in the area include Limewash Chicago, CertaPro Painters of Naperville and Plainfield, Powers Painting & Decorating, New Light Painting Co and Tadashi Painting.

How were these limewash companies chosen?

Each advertises limewash on its own website, has a confirmed location and phone, and serves the Aurora area. There are no paid placements.

What should I ask a limewash contractor?

Which product and how many coats, whether they do a test patch, how they check the brick, and who handles any historic district approval.

Is a franchise or a local painter better for limewash?

Either can do good work. Ask who does the brushwork and look at limewash jobs they have finished.

Should a limewash contractor do a test patch?

Yes. Limewash dries much lighter than it looks wet, and a dried patch is the only reliable way to agree the colour.

Talk it through before anyone opens a bucket

Say what the brick is, whether it has ever been painted or sealed, and how much of it shows from the street. You will hear what the job usually involves, what it tends to cost, and whether your town needs a sign-off first.
